A Guided Tour of the Miami Campus
When I took a guided tour of the Miami campus, I saw many things. I saw the Miami seal, and was told stories of the superstitions surrounding it. I saw the inside of the dorms there, and learned about some of the college life there. I saw their wonderful rec. center and the many activities that took place there. The guide showed us the inside of the massive libraries and the well guided classrooms, as well as the many other resources offered to students on campus.
I liked the tour, and the school seemed to have a very good feeling to it, one that I liked. I learned from the guide some of what college life would be, and overall I enjoyed it. I also learned what the standards of the school are, and what kind of work it takes to be accepted by Miami.

Video Footage of How Roofing is Done
In this video the roof is being replaced because of bad decking as well as standard wear and tear. Roof decking is a very important part of roofing because it ties all the structural parts of the roof together. There are many different types of roof decks. You can get roof pavers, OSB sheathing, plywood sheathing, wood groove, corrugated metal, reinforced concrete, or grancrete encapsulated polystyrene. While watching the video you can see that the first part of roofing is pulling up all the old shingles as well as the old nails. |
Around the edges of the roof and around any parts of the house that may protrude from the roof the workers have to be more careful and use smaller tools to be more precise.
A lot of the work that follows is some inspection of the roof, because based on the condition of the roof, the workers decide what steps they need to take. The last of the job is either tearing up the rest of the roof or leaving it if it is still in good condition. Then laying the shingles along with a material that goes under them to protect the wood and attic from natural weather. |

Replacing an Outlet Video
-Turn off electricity to the outlet from the main circuit panel -On the job we usually turn off the electricity to the whole apartment instead of one room. -Unscrew the screw to the outlet cover and the remove the cover. -Use a voltage detector to make sure no electric is still on. -We never used a voltage detector before. -Unscrew the outlet from the electrical box and pull out the wires still attached and take note of where the black and white wires were attached to the old one. -If wire does not come out we break the outlet open. -Remove the wires from the old outlet carefully. -Inspect it to see if the break off tab is on each side of the outlet is broken off. |
-On the new outlet break off the tabs on each side of the outlet.
-Attach the wires to the new outlet. If there is ground wire, attach it the green screw. -Push the new outlet into the electrically box and screw it in. -Place the outlet cover over the outlet and screw it in and turn on the power. |

Basic Skills of Management
This video explains what managing a business is like and what skills are needed for the career. A good manager has exceptional leadership and teamwork skills. They also need to know how to properly instruct individuals and how to explain tasks. This also means that the manager has to know how to perform the tasks that are a part of the daily workplace environment. A lot of managers start out as a lower level employee and they excel at their job and get promoted. When you start out as a lower level employee you learn the basics of the job you work and how to make everything run efficiently in the workplace. When a company hires someone from outside as a higher up, they have to learn quickly about their workplace. This means the employee needs to be able to adapt and learn quickly. |

Astronomy Video
In this video, the woman explains to us exactly what she does in her everyday life as an astronomer. Immediately she shows us how late she would get up because her work mainly falls at night time due to that being the ideal time to look at stars. She explains her role in the whole department of S.A.L.T. (South African Large Telescope.) She also explains how they cool off the telescope she works on and how her data is gathered and put into use. She explains really well about how they keep the telescope cool, and how they keep any source of light out during the night. She explains how the telescope hovers when it rotates, like a hovercraft, and she actually shows us exactly how the telescope turns. She also explains what got her into the astronomy field, but the video somewhat cuts out during that segment. |
What I collected from this video is that it’s a fun job. If you were to be in a stationary location you’d have to be a night owl. Your sleep schedule would be backwards, sleeping during the day and staying up all night gathering research of the stars and beyond. The way the telescope works fascinates me; I would’ve never thought they would move the whole structure of the telescope. I always assumed they just tilted some of the mirrors or something of the sorts. But rotating the structure on hovercraft technology is beyond my imagination.

Tommy-Video of Physical Therapist Showing
a Patient Balance Exercises In this video the physical therapist is showing the patient some balance exercises; the first one he shows her is up on toes back on heels, while putting your hands on either some sort of counter or table. As you get more comfortable you can take one hand off then take the other one off. Next you can make the exercise harder by closing your eyes and/or putting a piece of foam under your feet; that will make your ankles stronger. The next exercise in the video is called the flamingo, where your balance on one foot for a set amount of time and then you balance on the other one for a set time period; your body should be even--no twisting or turning. You can choose to hold on to something if you'd like for this exercise. |
The next exercise is squatting; when going down, your back should be as straight as possible--hold for five seconds and you should be using as little hand help as possible. The last exercise is putting one foot in front of the other and balancing with your hands floating freely to your side; you can hold on to a person or the table if you’d like. Your physical therapist might try to throw you off balance to strengthen you muscles.

Guided Tour of UC Blue Ash
I went on a tour to UC Blue Ash. On this tour I learned so much; I learned that every single basic class (math, science, writing, etc.) has a tutor. Blue Ash has only two buildings with classes in them, which is extremely small for a college. On the visit I saw the computer lab and the library. Inside the library there are studying boxes. Groups of people can reserve them up to three hours.I loved UC Blue Ash. I thought from my tour it was very organized and the building was very well taken care of. I really liked how small the campus and buildings were. I also liked very much how attentive and nice the staff was.
